Job Description:

PhD thesis within the Laboratory of Clinical Cell Therapy (PI: Dr Laurence Lagneaux) of Jules Bordet Institute (Faculty of Medicine, ULB) to conduct a project entitled “Extracellular vesicles derived from human umbilical cord-mesenchymal stromal cells for therapeutic targeting in pancreatic cancer“. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most fatal forms of cancer worldwide and the treatment of this disease remains a major challenge. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the feasibility to apply extracellular vesicles derived from human mesenchymal stromal cells obtained from umbilical cord to delivery molecules (siRNA and/or drugs) to specifically target pancreatic cancer cells. The PhD student will be employed by the FNRS under a Télévie grant.
Contract/starting date: 2 year fixed-term contract (renewable for 2 years), full time. Start-date: October 2018

Profil / Qualifications Requises

Profiles / Qualifications:

  •  Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry or related field.
  • Master’s degree should have been obtained with at least 70% (mandatory). 80% or 90% will be considered as an advantage.
  • Prior experience in cancer research would be an advantage, but is not mandatory.
  • Experience in cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, ELISA, Western-Blot and flow-cytometry techniques will be consider as an asset.
  • Excellent time management, rigor, perseverance, scientific creativity and originality, writing skills, sense of priority and ability to work with others.
  • Fluency in French and English is mandatory
