Job Description:

Lille Economics and Management (LEM, CNRS UMR 9221, IESEG School of Management and Université Lille 1) announce a job opening for a postdoctoral researcher who will join a team of researchers to work on decision-making under uncertainty and climate change economics.

The candidate will be working directly with Profs. Loïc Berger, Louis Eeckhoudt, David Crainich, and Giuseppe Attanasi (LEM) in Lille and will benefit from interactions with Profs. Valentina Bosetti and Massimo Marinacci in Milan (Bocconi University).

He/she will join the project INDUCED (INtegrating Deep Uncertainty in Climate changE moDelling) whose objective is to propose new ways of incorporating preferences people have with respect to deep uncertainty in the decision-making processes related to climate policy. The project will address three challenges: (i) theoretical investigation of the properties of alternative models that have been proposed to deal with deep uncertainty, (ii) experimental study of alternative approaches, measurement of the intensity of deep uncertainty aversion that could be directly used in the process of decision-making in the face of deep uncertainty and its relationship to the concept rationality; and (iii) investigation of the effect of contextual frameworks for decision-makers.

The selected applicant is expected to begin his/her assignment in late 2017. The initial appointment is for 12 months and can be renewed. Gross salary will be competitive with other European research and academic institutions. The researcher will be based in Lille (on the site of IESEG School of Management) and is expected to spend several visiting stays in Milan (Bocconi University and Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei).

Profil / Qualifications Requises

The candidate should have a Ph.D. (or be close to completion) in economics or energy engineering, mathematics, or physics, coupled with a solid economic background. He/she is expected to possess strong analytical skills and have a commitment to research excellence. He/she should also display a high level of team-spirit.

Applicants should be completely fluent in English. Prior knowledge of French is not required.

Experience in conducting theoretical and/or applied research using both analytical and numerical methods in one or more of the following areas is requested:

A) Behavioral/experimental economics (preferably specialized in decision making under uncertainty)

B) Decision theory (with strong interest in applying experimental methods and in climate change economics)

C) Climate change economics (with a strong interest in studying decision making under uncertainty)

Experience with econometric software such as STATA, Matlab, or R is an asset.

Applicants should send a detailed curriculum vitae, a cover letter (no more than one page), a job market paper (an authored or co-authored paper which demonstrates the applicant’s skills relevant to the topic of the position), the names, affiliations, and email addresses of three referees, one or more letters of recommendation, and a statement (1-2 pages) that describes your motivation for working in our group. Applicants should also identify the area/s they are applying for (from A to C). Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please submit all files electronically in a single PDF file named ”[your name]_INDUCED–postdoc application” and with the same subject name to Loïc Berger ( induced.project@gmail.com ).
