Towards ESOF 2018 preparatory meetings: the end of the series!
IIn order to create synergies between the scientific, political and economic communities a series of seven ESOF preparatory meetings was organised in 2016 and 2017, attracting the attention of national and regional actors and the participation of nearly 1000 people. The 2016 conferences aimed at presenting ESOF as a catalyser of the construction of a Europe of science and innovation. In 2017, four topics were discussed in partnership with local groups: “Big Data & Health”, “Human-Robot interactions”, “Digital transformation of Agrichains” and “Water & Energy”. The cycle is now over. Next step is the ESOF programme itself.
Labeled event: a training programme of the IHEST in Toulouse.
The IHEST (Institute for High Studies in Science and Technology, Paris) organised a training programme in Toulouse (5-7 December) around this year’s theme, “The unknown and the uncertain”. Partnering with the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées, the Natural History Museum, the Space City and several high schools and doctoral schools, the IHEST sessions allowed participants to interact with local science-related actors. Jean-Patrick Connerade, former EuroScience president, and Anne Cambon-Thomsen, ESOF 2018 Champion, presented a historical and prospective view of ESOF’s original contribution in Europe.
ESOF: from 2018 to 2020
On 30 November and 1 December, the ESOF 2018 team welcomed the ESOF 2020 champion from Trieste, Stefano Fantoni, together with Diego Bravar and Pierpaolo Ferrante from the ESOF 2020 team. It was an occasion to have interesting exchanges about the challenging adventure that is the delivery of such an event and how to ensure continuity between ESOFs in different places.
Youth + ESOF = YESOF! ESOF for the youth is a full programme track of ESOF 2018, in partnership with the Rectorate of the Toulouse Academy. Disseminating science among the youngest generations, motivating their interest for various facets of science and their perception of the European and international dimension of science are among the ambitions of ESOF. Science related achievements of the children during the school year and initiatives of scientific culture actions for and with the youth will be presented during ESOF or during the Science in the City festival. International initiatives are welcome.
